{"id":1020,"date":"2012-08-31T10:12:03","date_gmt":"2012-08-30T21:12:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thesislink.aut.ac.nz\/?p=1020"},"modified":"2016-07-29T19:19:18","modified_gmt":"2016-07-29T06:19:18","slug":"university-postgraduate-centre-updates-from-the-2012-postgraduate-symposium","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thesislink.aut.ac.nz\/?p=1020","title":{"rendered":"University Postgraduate Centre updates from the 2012 Postgraduate Symposium"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thesislink.aut.ac.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Welbys-keynote-speech5.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-1043\" title=\"Welby's keynote speech\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thesislink.aut.ac.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Welbys-keynote-speech5-300x257.jpg?resize=352%2C302&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"352\" height=\"302\" \/><\/a>On Tuesday 28 August 2012, the University Postgraduate Centre hosted its <a title=\"Postgraduate Symposium\" href=\"https:\/\/careerhub.aut.ac.nz\/StoredFile.aspx?id=1631&amp;fn=2012_Symposium_programme.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">6th annual Postgraduate Symposium<\/a> in the AUT Conference Centre.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Richard Bedford, Pro Vice Chancellor (Research) opened the Symposium inviting participants to engage in the scope and quality of postgraduate research presentations before welcoming keynote speaker, Professor Welby Ings, award winning designer, film maker and playwrighter to entertainingly explain a stimulating presentation of re-search and thought in postgraduate education.<\/p>\n<p>The day was actively involved with postgraduate research students from various faculties presenting on their research and onlookers admiring the poster presentations set up outside the Conference room.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thesislink.aut.ac.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/posters3.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-1073\" title=\"posters\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thesislink.aut.ac.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/posters3.jpg?resize=247%2C188&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"247\" height=\"188\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thesislink.aut.ac.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/posters3.jpg?resize=300%2C228&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thesislink.aut.ac.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/posters3.jpg?resize=1024%2C781&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thesislink.aut.ac.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/posters3.jpg?w=2340&amp;ssl=1 2340w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 247px) 100vw, 247px\" \/><\/a>As the Symposium drew closer to the finale event of the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition, the 11 doctoral and Master of Philosophy students representing their disciplinary area in engineering, sport and recreation, business and law, communication, computing and information sciences and public policy were ready to give the audience a short yet simple synopsis of their research in 3 minutes.\u00a0 Easy?
