{"id":4434,"date":"2015-08-24T13:16:42","date_gmt":"2015-08-24T00:16:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thesislink.aut.ac.nz\/?p=4434"},"modified":"2016-08-01T11:46:51","modified_gmt":"2016-07-31T23:46:51","slug":"congratulations-to-the-3-minute-thesis-finalists-and-winners","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thesislink.aut.ac.nz\/?p=4434","title":{"rendered":"Congratulations to the 3 Minute Thesis finalists and winners!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Congratulations to Kudakwashe Tuwe (PhD candidate) and Samuel Paterson (Master of Sport and Exercise student), winners of the doctoral and Masters 3MT competitions!<\/p>\n<p>Tuwe and Samuel were among the eleven students who aced the 3MT pre-heats to go through to the finals, held on Friday 21 August during the\u00a0Postgraduate Research Symposium. The competition was chaired by Dr Andy Godfrey, alongside judges Dr Pedro Silva, Associate Professor Erica Hinckson, and 2014 3MT winner Stephanie-Anne Croft.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thesislink.aut.ac.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_7075__1440374962_156.62.3.55.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4438 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thesislink.aut.ac.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_7075__1440374962_156.62.3.55.jpg?resize=600%2C400&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"IMG_7075__1440374962_156.62.3.55\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thesislink.aut.ac.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_7075__1440374962_156.62.3.55.jpg?w=600&amp;ssl=1 600w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thesislink.aut.ac.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_7075__1440374962_156.62.3.55.jpg?resize=150%2C100&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thesislink.aut.ac.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_7075__1440374962_156.62.3.55.jpg?resize=300%2C200&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tuwe (right) is enrolled in the Faculty of Culture and Society and supervised by Associate Professor\u00a0Camille Nakhid, Dr Carol Neill and Professor Ian Shirley. He gave a compelling presentation on the employment experiences of African communities in New Zealand. Tuwe impressed the judges with his magnetic stage presence, and the innovativeness of his storytelling methodology. Tuwe will represent AUT at the Trans-Tasman 3MT Doctoral Competition on 2 October at the University of Queensland in Brisbane.<\/p>\n<p>Samuel (left) is enrolled in his Masters within the Faculty of Health and Environmental Sciences under the supervision of Dr Travis McMaster and Professor John Cronin. He presented on the reliability and discriminative ability of badminton specific change of direction testing. The judges praised his ability to communicate complex scientific content in a clear and easily understandable way. Samuel will compete for AUT at the Masters 3MT Inter-University Challenge at the University of Auckland on 10 September.<\/p>\n<p>Well done also to the runners up for competitions.
