There is a new group called Action Research Connections based on the North Shore campus.

For the uninitiated: action research (sometimes called participatory action research or co-design) is all about creating a positive impact through the research process. Action researchers work with participants in an active partnership, often co-designing the research together for everyone’s mutual benefit. This is a way of managing power dynamics and diminishing hierarchies. It is often used where the participants are members of a marginalised community.

If you are using (or interested in) action research methods, you may like to head along to the next meeting of the Action Research Connections group on March 8th from 4-6pm in AE114a.

The group is a mix of staff and postgraduate student researchers, with a focus on providing mentorship and creating connections between researchers with similar interests. There is conversation and often a presentation from an action researcher. Associate Professor Lesley Ferkins will facilitate the March meeting.

Check out the flyer here, or contact PhD student Livvie Baudinet (livvie.baudinet@aut.ac.nz) for more information.

Good news, action researchers!
