Here at the Graduate Research School (in\ncollaboration with your supervisors and the entire AUT community), we are\ncontinuing to explore ways we can support and provide you with the flexibility\nand guidance that shows we care and are here to help you. This Update #7 provides\nadditional information with regard to the COVID-19 Alert Level 3, and\npreparation for the transition to Alert Level 2 which is anticipated to be\nenacted sometime in the next few weeks. If there are questions or concerns you\nhave please get in touch via <a href=\"mailto:grs@aut.ac.nz\">grs@aut.ac.nz<\/a> or via our various online\n\u2018drop-in sessions\u2019 outlined under the \u2018Stay Connected\u2019 sub-heading below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>New Zealand COVID-19 Alert\nLevels<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>New\nZealand\u2019s COVID-19 Alert Level is now at Level 3. Under Level 3 it is expected that graduate research students and AUT\nstaff continue to work from home\/remotely whenever possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You\ncan find the latest information on COVID-19 from New Zealand\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/covid19.govt.nz\/\">COVID-19\ninformation website<\/a>\nand via AUT\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/news.aut.ac.nz\/news\/coronavirus-update\">COVID-19\nupdate page<\/a> (and doctoral candidates\ncan also access the <a href=\"https:\/\/auti.aut.ac.nz\/news\/Pages\/COVID-19-Staff-updates.aspx\">AUTi\nCOVID-19<\/a> intranet page).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What Will Happen under Alert Level 2<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nNZ government will make a decision on Monday 11 May as to whether the country\nremains in Alert Level 3 or moves to Alert Level 2. AUT will continue to\ndeliver semester 1 classes remotely for remainder of this semester and will\nreview the position for access to campus facilities once it has received more\ndetailed guidance from the Ministry of Education and Tertiary Education Commission\nfor Alert Level 2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stay Connected<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Graduate Research School is continuing to\noffer a number of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/sdw.aut.ac.nz\/support-services\/covid-19-support-for-aut-students\">Stay\nConnected<\/a>\u201d\nopportunities. These will be offered via Zoom and are as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Coffee with Annalise<\/em><strong>:&nbsp;<\/strong> If you have\nany questions related to research support, or you just want company to chat\nabout your day over coffee, drop in for a chat with GRS staff member Annalise\nDavidson. The online drop-in sessions are scheduled on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30am-11:00am (group sessions: <a href=\"https:\/\/aut.zoom.us\/s\/492890150\">access through Zoom<\/a>)*<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2:30pm-3:00pm (one-on-one sessions: <a href=\"https:\/\/aut.zoom.us\/s\/810917956\">access through Zoom<\/a>)*<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>*Sessions may change subject to demand<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Korero with the Dean: <\/em>Prof Mark Orams, Dean of the Graduate Research School will be offering online \u201cdrop-ins\u201d for graduate research students and supervisors for Q&amp;As. The next scheduled session is scheduled for 10-11am Tuesday 5 May. <a href=\"https:\/\/aut.zoom.us\/j\/93222823389\">Click here to gain access through Zoom.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Shut Up and Write (SUAW)\nZoom Sessions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Writing from home can seem daunting and hard to make good progress. Fortunately, AUT\u2019s SUAW sessions are now available via Zoom. You do not need to attend for the full duration of the session, but it is handy if you do so, as it gives us a chance to chat to one another and provide support as needed (please note; sessions may change subject to demand). The online drop-in sessions are scheduled on Mondays 9:30 \u2013 11:45am. <a href=\"https:\/\/aut.zoom.us\/s\/492890150\">Access through Zoom.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Health and Wellbeing<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Emiliana Faapoi, Postgraduate Student Support Advisor with the Graduate Research School, is offering one-to-one sessions for graduate research students who are feeling anxious and isolated during this challenging time. Please contact Emiliana to make an appointment: <a href=\"mailto:emiliana.faapoi@aut.ac.nz\">emiliana.faapoi@aut.ac.nz<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To book an appointment with Student Counselling and Mental Health please phone (09) 921 9292 or email\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:counselling@aut.ac.nz\">counselling@aut.ac.nz.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The next Wellness Toolkit session focuses on\n\u201cBuilding resilience \u2013 Self-care and self-compassion\u201d and is on Wednesday 13\nMay, 3pm \u2013 4.30pm via <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/2VK8RJ5\">Microsoft\nTeams<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How to book a space at Tech Central\nfor Students who do not have Internet or Computers at Home<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Covid-19\nUpdate #6, we announced that students could book a space to use a computer in\nTech Central on campus (South, City and North campuses) using MyPC booking.&nbsp; This process has been changed. All bookings now need to be made\nusing the AUT app on your smart phone. The most recent version of the AUT app is\nessential to book space at Tech Central and can be downloaded from the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/nz\/app\/aut\/id1473379908\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Apple Store<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=nz.ac.aut.autapp&amp;hl=en_US\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Google Play<\/a>. If\nyou don\u2019t have a smart phone, you can email&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:studenthub@aut.ac.nz\">studenthub@aut.ac.nz<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To make a\nbooking in the AUT app, select My AUT from the main menu, followed by Bookings.\nYou will get a confirmation email which includes a link to cancel or change\nyour booking. You will be given the option to add your booking to your Office\n365 calendar. When you arrive on campus you will be required to check in and\ncheck out of each area by scanning a QR code using the AUT app on your smart\nphone. All staff and students intending to access AUT facilities must load the\nAUT app on their smartphone.&nbsp;A manual sign-in process will be undertaken\nfor those without a suitable device. In order to maintain physical distancing\nand provide for future contact tracing, no one will be allowed access without a\nbooking. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Accessing AUT Software and\nIT Help from Home<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AUT\nhas created an opportunity for you to remotely access AUT computers from home.\nThis may be useful for you if you wish to access specialised data\/software that\nis stored on the AUT computing system. You can find out more information on\nthis via <a href=\"https:\/\/sdw.aut.ac.nz\/study\/it-services\/accessing-aut-computers-from-home\">this video tutorial<\/a>. If the specialist\nsoftware is unavailable to access, the GRS may be able to request that\nadditional machines be made available with the software you need as part of\nthis service (e.g. SPSS, NVIVO). Student ICT support is provided by freephone:&nbsp;<a href=\"tel:0800288428\">0800\n288 428<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Data Collection\nfor Research Activities During Alert Level 3<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, all existing AUTEC approvals\nfor research that brings researchers into close proximity to human participants\nis suspended. However, under the proposed government guidelines for Alert Level\n2, interaction with people with physical distancing of one metre may be\npermitted. AUTEC is currently considering what research will be permitted to\nresume under an Alert Level 2 scenario. Details on this will be released prior\nto a transition to Level 2. Graduate research students and their supervisors\nwho wish to change their current AUTEC approved research can complete an\nEA2 to amend the ethics approval. The form is available to download from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aut.ac.nz\/research\/researchethics\/forms\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Recording\nDisruptions to Your Research via Your Regular Progress Reports (PGR8) <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All\ngraduate research students undertaking a thesis at doctoral or master\u2019s level\nare required, with their supervisors, to complete and submit PGR8 Progress\nReports each six months. We have added a specific question into the <a href=\"https:\/\/sdw.aut.ac.nz\/__data\/assets\/word_doc\/0007\/358009\/Form-PGR8-Progress-Report-V1.8-Apr-2020.docx\">PGR8 form<\/a> which asks you to reflect\non the disruption that may have been caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Please\nconsider this carefully and record this on your PGR8 when it is next due.
