As\nyou will have seen via the media announcements, we have much more flexibility\nnow, but we must remain disciplined and vigilant in following the Ministry of\nHealth guidelines (see <a href=\"https:\/\/covid19.govt.nz\/\">COVID-19\ninformation website<\/a>).\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This\nweek\u2019s update report provides you with information relevant to the permissions\nand conditions for resuming (or continuing) with your mahi (work) as a graduate\nresearch student. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\nrecognise that, for some of you, this will continue to constrain your ability\nto return to your projects and this will be frustrating. Please try to remain\npatient and do reach out to us at the GRS (<a href=\"mailto:gra@aut.ac.nz)\">grs@aut.ac.nz)<\/a> if you need help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You\ncan find the latest information on AUT\u2019s operations under Alert Level 2 via our\n<a href=\"https:\/\/news.aut.ac.nz\/news\/coronavirus-update\">COVID-19\nupdate page<\/a> (and doctoral candidates\ncan also access the <a href=\"https:\/\/auti.aut.ac.nz\/news\/Pages\/COVID-19-Staff-updates.aspx\">AUTi\nCOVID-19<\/a> intranet page).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Access to Campus Facilities During\nAlert Level 2<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In general, we\u2019re\nasking everyone to continue to work&nbsp;remotely&nbsp;until the end of semester one (18 June 2020)\nif possible. However, if you consider that access to a campus facility is\ncrucial for your work&nbsp;you can apply for permission to\naccess a campus building\/facility via the following process:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>Request access via your Primary Supervisor<\/em>. You will need to demonstrate\nthe reasons why returning to a campus building\/facility is essential for your\nwork as a graduate research student. <\/li><li>Your Primary Supervisor, if they support\nyour request, will need to <em>seek approval\nfrom their relevant Head of School <\/em>(or line manager). The ultimate\nauthority to approve requests sits with the relevant Faculty Dean.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><li>If your request to access a campus\nbuilding\/facility is&nbsp;approved, you then\nneed to&nbsp;<em>fill out the<\/em><em>&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/forms.office.com\/Pages\/ResponsePage.aspx?id=oSwCXgRch0-Nt9WIcmJ042aiPEwVeOJIgqg5a8I2c1tUM01UNTVISTFKWjlNN1pCSEhPWlBVR00wMy4u\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>AUT On-site<\/em><em>&nbsp;<\/em><em>Access<\/em><em>&nbsp;<\/em><em>Request Form<\/em><\/a><em>&nbsp;<\/em>(note this applies both for a once only access, including picking\nup equipment, and approval for ongoing access).&nbsp;You need to complete this form in order for\nAUT to meet our contact tracing obligations under Alert Level 2 conditions.<\/li><li>The AUT Estates\/Security\ndepartment will then contact you with instructions on how to arrange your\nvisit(s) to campus.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Before&nbsp;coming&nbsp;on\ncampus <em>download<\/em><em>&nbsp;<\/em><em>the AUT mobile\napp and \u201ctag in-and-out\u201d of all spaces on campus, by scanning the QR code at\nkey access points<\/em>. You can\ndownload the AUT app from the <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/nz\/app\/aut\/id1473379908\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AppleStore<\/a>&nbsp;or <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=nz.ac.aut.autapp&amp;hl=en_US\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Google\nPlay<\/a> onto your smartphone.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Protocols for social distancing (minimum of one metre from others),\nmaximum of groups of 10 people, hygiene (e.g. frequent hand washing;\ncoughing\/sneezing into your elbow; no sharing of equipment\/work stations\nwithout appropriate cleaning) must be strictly followed when on campus (or\nelsewhere).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>IF YOU DO NOT\nFEEL WELL,<\/strong> <strong>DO NOT\nCOME TO CAMPUS<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Contact your health professional (GP) or the Health\nLine ph <a href=\"tel:0800611116\">0800 611 116<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please note: Access to\ncertain areas on campus may be restricted for safety and security reasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are granted\npermission to access campus buildings and facilities this will be restricted to\nbetween the hours of 7.30am to 5.30pm on weekdays only.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Guidance\nfor Ethical Research Practice Under Alert Level 2<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AUTEC advises that data collection\ninvolving physical proximity to other people may resume at Alert Level 2&nbsp;<em>as long as<\/em><em>&nbsp;<\/em><em>researchers and participants are complying\nwith<\/em><em>&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/covid19.govt.nz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Ministry of Health Guidelines<\/em><\/a>, including:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Limiting the size of&nbsp;gatherings;&nbsp;<\/li><li>Maintaining physical distancing; and&nbsp;<\/li><li>Collecting sufficient information to enable\nquick and accurate contact tracing should the Ministry of Health request it.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>AUTEC encourages graduate research students\nto consult with their Primary Supervisor, and the AUTEC Secretariat if\nnecessary, to develop protocols that are in line with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/covid19.govt.nz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ministry of Health guidelines<\/a>,&nbsp;and appropriate for their specific research\nproject. If these protocols are different than those approved for your research\nproject by AUTEC, you will need to seek an amendment (via your Primary\nSupervisor) to your approval using&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aut.ac.nz\/research\/researchethics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the EA2 form which can\nbe found here<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You are also reminded to&nbsp;prioritise&nbsp;the safety of your research participants,\nyourself and any research assistants, particularly when&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/covid19.govt.nz\/individuals-and-households\/health-and-wellbeing\/at-risk-people\/#alert-level-2-advice-for-at-risk-people\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">people in an at-risk category<\/a>&nbsp;are involved.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please submit new Ethics\nApplications and Amendments to existing AUTEC approvals by email to&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:ethics@aut.ac.nz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ethics@aut.ac.nz<\/a>.
