It is appropriate that we all reflect on this time and\nacknowledge those difficulties and how we have had to find a way through. At\nthe Graduate Research School we have heard many of your stories and we very\nmuch admire your resilience, flexibility and determination to adapt and\ncontinue on. Thank you and congratulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The effects of COVID-19 are still being experienced\nand, as a consequence, we will continue to provide these updates every second\nweek. As always, if you have any concerns, questions or things we can help you\nwith please get in touch via <a href=\"mailto:grs@aut.ac.nz\">grs@aut.ac.nz<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Changes in the Graduate\nResearch School<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our Dean, Professor Mark Orams has taken up the role of Acting Dean of the Faculty of Health and Environmental Sciences. Associate Professor Nigel Harris has been appointed as Acting Dean of the Graduate Research School. This change will not affect what we do as a GRS to support you. Mark will work with Nigel and Associate Professor Jennie Billot in the academic leadership of the GRS and \u201cTeam GRS\u201d will continue to work with you and your supervisors to provide you with support and advice through your graduate research candidature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Campuses\nreopening<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nreturn to AUT campuses has begun! Most AUT staff will be back on campus by Monday\nJune 22.&nbsp;However, coursework teaching and learning will remain online for the\nremaining two weeks of Semester 1 (aside from research and practical\nrequirements which have resumed on-campus).&nbsp;On-campus coursework teaching\nand learning will resume for everyone in Semester 2 (commencing July 20).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Campus\naccess for Graduate Research Students<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are pleased to announce that the AUT\nPostgraduate Study rooms have also reopened. These include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>City (WU415-416) located on level 4 of\nWU Building<\/li><li>North (AL210) located inside the\nLibrary<\/li><li>South (MA206) located inside Tech\nCentral\/Library<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Please note that under Level 1 these rooms will only be open from <strong>6:00am\nuntil 10:00pm<\/strong>. These hours are to be reviewed within the next few weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students who had approved access to the above facilities prior to\nthe lockdown, should have had their swipe-cards automatically reactivated as of\nMonday 15 June.&nbsp; If you have any issues with accessing the above\nfacilities, please email Annalise Davidson (Graduate Research School) at <a href=\"mailto:grs@aut.ac.nz\">grs@aut.ac.nz<\/a>.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All other laboratories, work spaces and on-campus facilities used\nby graduate research students should now be available for you to re-enter and\nresume using. If you are having problems with this please contact your primary\nsupervisor and alert them to this issue so they can follow up with the relevant\nHead of School and Faculty Dean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>COVID-19\ncontrol measures&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under\nthe current Alert Level 1, the main control measures are border restrictions\nand managed isolation or quarantine. There is still a global pandemic. We must\nall remain vigilant and be ready to respond quickly. Please continue with your good\nhygiene practices, keeping track of where you go and who you meet.&nbsp;AUT may\nbe closed again if there is a suspected or confirmed&nbsp;case on campus.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>General guidelines:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Stay at home if you are sick<\/li><li>Practice good hand hygiene<\/li><li>Maintain good cough\/sneeze\netiquette<\/li><li>Carry your photo ID at all times<\/li><li>Use the government&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/tracing.covid19.govt.nz\/\">NZ COVID\nTracer app<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition \u2013 by video submission for\n2020<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Three Minute Thesis (3MT) is a research communication competition developed by The University\nof Queensland (UQ).&nbsp;Competitors have three minutes to present their thesis\nand its significance in an inspiring and captivating way.&nbsp;For this year\u2019s competition, entrants will give their research\npresentation by video submission rather than presenting onstage. This allows\nthe competition to remain consistent for entrants all over the world. Applications\nfor the 2020 AUT Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition are now open. You can\naccess information&nbsp;on the AUT 3MT, including rules, judging criteria <a href=\"https:\/\/student.aut.ac.nz\/postgraduate-research\/postgraduate-student-community-and-events\/postgrad-research-events\/3mt-competition\">here\non the Student Hub Online.<\/a> Further\ninformation about the 3MT Competition is also <a href=\"https:\/\/threeminutethesis.uq.edu.au\/about\">available on the UQ website<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Entries for the doctoral 3MT competition close Friday 17 July 2020 (<a href=\"https:\/\/aut.au1.qualtrics.com\/jfe\/form\/SV_bQOCeUdbIrJMGMt\">Doctoral students&#8217; entry form<\/a>)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Entries for the master\u2019s 3MT competition close Friday 26 June 2020 (<a href=\"https:\/\/aut.au1.qualtrics.com\/jfe\/form\/SV_8tRpfLLkfgDnWHr\">Master&#8217;s research students&#8217; entry form<\/a>)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Winter Graduation: 26 and 27 August 2020<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With no restrictions on social distancing under Alert Level 1, AUT\nis excited to announce that the 2020 Winter Graduation ceremonies will take\nplace in person on 26 and 27 August at the Aotea Centre, Auckland Central.\nSince Monday 15 June, AUT have been contacting students who have been\nidentified as possibly eligible to graduate to give them further information\nabout arrangements, including the dates and venue for awarding their\nqualification and celebrating their achievements. Email <a href=\"mailto:annalise.davidson@aut.ac.nz\">annalise.davidson@aut.ac.nz<\/a> to book your chat and\/or ask your questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Shut Up and Write (SUAW)\nZoom Sessions <\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To write up your research you need to write often, and you need to\nwrite well, but for most of us this is not easy. Join us \u2013 a small group of\nstaff and postgraduate student writers from around AUT \u2013 so we can tackle the\nchallenge of research writing in a supportive but rigorous community of\nwriters.
