Provides an overview of the structure of Introduction and Conclusions sections of a thesis. Identifies typical functions and distinctive features of these sections in relation to the whole research project. Participants analyse and discuss text examples and relate these to their own writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Positioning your research area: How do other research writers do it?<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wed 22 Jul 2020, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm, held online<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Focuses on identifying how writers relate their own area of research to their broader field. Participants explore how writers communicate \u2018what\u2019 they are researching and how it fits in with existing research. Discusses similarities between positioning research in journal articles and thesis writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Choosing a reference manager<\/strong><\/a> <\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A discussion of the pros and cons of Mendeley, Zotero and EndNote reference managers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ethical Principles in the Design of Your Research<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The goal of this workshop is to enable researchers to understand the ethical aspects of researching. This workshop is intended for Pre-EA1, and should be attended before the Fine Tuning your Ethics Application Draft workshop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Getting started with writing<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wed 22 Jul 2020, 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm, held online<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Focuses on strategies to help researchers get words on the page. Participants try freewriting and mapping concepts as steps towards gradually producing academic writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
