Kia ora koutou. We hope everyone is safe and well in their bubbles. We just wanted to remind you that we have an online event coming up next week that will be entertaining and informative and may serve as a welcome distraction from current events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Graduate Research School will host the AUT 3 Minute Thesis (3MT) Finals event virtually on Friday 3 September from 4-5pm. The 3 Minute Thesis competition was devised by the University of Queensland and AUT holds our own competition every year. Research Students have just three minutes to present their research in a dynamic and engaging way, and have just one slide. You can find out more about 3MT here<\/a>. The winner will represent AUT at the Asia-Pacific event online later this year. Finalists are also competing for some wonderful prizes from our sponsors: Cyclone, ICT Services, AUT Sport & Fitness Centres and AUT Shop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since we had already planned to host the event online, lockdown has not caused too much disruption. Finalists have created video presentations according to the 3MT rules which will be presented, and the judges\u2019 decisions will be announced. We have six finalists, all PhD students. Their names, faculties and presentation titles are as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Megan Burfoot, Faculty of Design and Creative Technologies: The Classroom is Listening<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mitali Nautiyal, Faculty of Design and Creative Technologies: Apparel Sustainability Assessment Tool<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rashi Bhalla, Faculty of Design and Creative Technologies: The Role of Big Data in Early Prediction of Asthma-Related Emergency Department Visits and Admissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rezwana Snigdha, Faculty of Culture and Society: Beyond the Gender Binary: Hijra in Bangladesh<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s judges are Associate Professor Nigel Harris, Acting Dean of the Graduate Research School; Ngaire Rix, Manager, Learning Success; and Negin Ahmadi Saber Doust, PhD runner up of AUT\u2019s 2020 3MT Competition. The event will be MCed by Professor Mark Orams, who will be returning as Dean of the Graduate Research School on 13 September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AUT students and staff are cordially invited to attend the event next Friday, 3 September at 4pm. Supporters of the finalists and other interested parties are also welcome to attend.
