Does your research (metaphorically) break down walls?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If you are doing research that has a positive impact on society — especially if that research is particularly innovative or impactful — you could be a prime candidate for the Falling Walls competition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Falling Walls was established after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. The competition runs all around the world, with a finals event in Berlin to celebrate the most outstanding innovators working to break down the tangible and intangible obstructions that hold humanity back. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Competitors are welcome to enter from across a wide range of disciplines, both inside and outside academia. The format is a bit like 3 Minute Thesis: you have just 3 minutes to convince the judges that your work dismantles barriers in way that benefits society. The NZ champion will then fly to Berlin to compete in the global finals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Entries for the NZ competition, administered by the Royal Society, are open until Thursday 1 June<\/strong>. The event itself will take place on Tuesday 5 September in Wellington, in advance of the global finals on Tuesday 7 November in Berlin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
