AUT 3MT Winner Ryan Howard Competing in Asia-Pacific Competition

At a buzzing AUT 3MT Finals event on 13 September, Ryan Howard was crowned the 2024 AUT 3 Minute Thesis champion! Ryan impressed our AUT judges with his presentation on bioluminescent adaptations in squid. (Did you know that the Taningia squid in the deep sea off the coast of NZ can use bioluminescence to communicate across large distances without being detected by predators?) A huge congratulations to you Ryan!

Congratulations also to Waruna Weerasekera, who won the AUT 3MT Audience Vote award with his presentation on the outcomes of continuous glucose monitoring for Type 2 diabetes. Well done Waruna!

Ryan is now representing AUT at the Asia-Pacific 3MT competition. You can view his entry in their online semi-final showcase, and finalists will be announced on Monday 21 October. We wish you all the very best of luck Ryan – you’re doing AUT (and the Squid Squad) proud!
