The full programme for AUT Wiki Rangahau / Research Week 2026 has landed, and registrations are now open. This year’s Research Week runs Monday 31 August to Friday 4 September, and the theme, Applying Research and Technology for Good, shows up everywhere: in the showcases, the symposia, the workshops, and the celebrations of AUT’s research contributions.
Here’s what we particularly recommend pencilling into your calendar.
Our picks for postgrads
- Postgraduate Research Symposium — Tuesday 1 September, 9.30am–5.30pm. A full day of oral presentations, creative works, and posters from your fellow PG and doctoral students, opening with a keynote and closing with a panel on publication.
- 2026 AUT 3MT Competition Finals — Thursday 3 September, 2pm–3.30pm. Watch doctoral finalists who’ve made it through the pre-heats explain their entire thesis in three minutes flat. Cast your audience vote, and stick around for nibbles afterwards. Livestreamed if you can’t get there in person.
- African Postgraduate Research Symposium — Wednesday 2 September, 11am–2pm. Now in its second year, giving emerging scholars a platform to present and connect with the wider AUT research community.
- Ngā hua a Tāne-te-wānanga: AUT Māori Research Symposium — Tuesday 25 August (the week before Research Week proper), 8.30am–3.30pm, Te Puna Innovation Quarter, Henderson. Featuring presentations from Māori researchers and colleagues at every stage, from postgrad through to professor. Register via dctevents@aut.ac.nz.
- Prompting GPTs to Communicate Research — Monday 31 August, 10.30am–12pm. A hands-on workshop on turning a published paper into something people beyond your discipline actually want to read, using AUTGPT or Copilot. Bring a laptop and a piece of your own published (ideally open access) work.

- Moanaroa Mana Ola: Navigating Health Together – a two-day interdisciplinary Pacific health research conference at South campus (Tue 1–Wed 2 Sept). Note this one has a registration cost: $100 general / $50 student for both days, via phrc2026.lilregie.com.
- ASTRI Presents: Doing Research for Social Change (Wed 2 Sept) – this seminar highlights some of the ways in which members of the AUT Social Transformation Research Institute (ASTRI) have used creative or innovative methods to advance social change in their research.
- Rainbow Research Seminar: Heated Rivalry – Queer Masculinities in Sports (Mon 31 Aug) – this talk uses “Heated Rivalry,” archival evidence and material culture to consider the long history of queer men’s participation in sport, queer masculinity and the significance of queer male visibility in sports.
- AUT Innovation Showcase (Thu 3 Sept, 5pm–8pm) – one of the most popular events from 2025 returns! A hands-on look at how AUT research moves from inception to implementation, with a focus on some of our commercialised products.
- Whakanui Rangahau Lunch (Fri 4 Sept) – an invitation-only lunch celebrating researchers who’ve had a standout year. (Keep an eye on your inbox for an invitation if you’ve been nominated to attend!)
Most events run on the City campus, but there are exceptions; so make sure to check the venue on each listing before you register.
How to register
Head to the LilRegie registration page and tick the boxes for whatever catches your eye — you can book into multiple events in one go. The Māori Research Symposium and the Pacific health conference have separate registration processes (details above).
