Help for AUT PG Students to Navigate the Changing Research Landscape

The way research creates impact in Aotearoa New Zealand is evolving. There is currently a Science System Advisory Group (SSAG) reviewing our science & research sector, and recommending changes to the government. The first SSAG Report highlights a future where research is expected to deliver real-world benefits—whether through industry collaboration, commercialisation, or community impact. This shift will affect AUT researchers at all levels, including PG students.

But what does this mean for you?

Researchers preparing to work in Aotearoa are likely to need a greater focus on innovation and impact than ever before. There is a growing expectation that researchers excel not only in doing the research, but also in taking it further: communicating, applying, and implementing the research as well. Research is no longer seen as something that lives only in the lab or office, or in a publication. It’s out in the world.

Whether you want to explore commercial opportunities, access funding, or simply understand how these changes could shape your future, AUT Ventures is here to help.

“The innovation landscape is shifting, and we’re evolving with it. We’re committed to giving AUT researchers the tools, funding, and support they need to turn ideas into impact.”
