Call for Papers – 8th Annual Postgraduate Symposium, Friday 22 August, 9.00am-5.30pm

If you feel your research is ‘cutting edge’ and want to share it with us then we want to hear from you.   Here is an opportunity to present your research in front of your peers!   We offer two alternatives at this Symposium:

  • oral presentation (20 minute presentation)
  • poster presentation (provide information about your poster to Symposium participants during the lunch-time period)imagesCAX2R5XI

Oral presentation
Submit an abstract outlining the topic that you wish to talk about in a 20 minute presentation.  Your abstract needs to clearly identify the issue(s) that you will cover during the presentation.

Abstract Guidelines:
Your abstract should include:

  • Title of the presentation
  • Names of your supervisor/s
  • Purpose of presentation: Clearly state what your specific presentation will seek to do before setting out the relevant debates and information on your research.
  • Clear statement on the nature of the research being presented (e.g. conceptual work, literature review discussion, reflexive analysis, empirical research) and the stage you will have been reached by the time of presentation (e.g. literature review completed, developing methodology, initial pilot study, developing theoretical framework for testing, on-going research, reporting on completed research)
  • Methodology, approach and sample
  • Key argument, findings, implications and/or conclusions to be presented
  • Short list of references (if included; some abstracts do not contain references)

Poster presentation
This is an opportunity to create a visual representation of your research for display during the Symposium.  Presenters will be asked to stand by their posters during lunch time to provide advice and information to interested symposium participants about how your poster represents the research elements that you wish to emphasise.

Most poster presentations are printed on sizes A0 or A1 format.   You may want to contact Printsprint for information on their costs. (We do not cover the costs for preparing and printing the poster – this would need to be done at your expense.) Samples of poster presentations are available here.

Closing date for abstract submissions is Friday 30 May, 2014 at 5pm.
