Livvy Mitchell, AUT’s 3 Minute Thesis Masters winner, will hit the stage at Marama Hall at the University of Otago tonight for the 2019 Three Minute Thesis New Zealand Inter-University Master’s Final.

Livvy’s talk entitled ‘Home Detention: Couch surfing or job preserving?’ describes her research into home detention sentencing in New Zealand. Livvy examines the relationship between home detention and offenders’ recidivism rates and labour market participation. Her research, conducted toward a Master’s in Economics, evaluates the effect of policy changes in the Parole Amendment Act 2007.
Tonight’s national winner will receive a $1000 research grant, and the People’s Choice award-winner will receive a $500 research grant.
