Finding Turnitin in Canvas

Now that AUT has a shiny new learning management system (hi, Canvas!) we have a new home for Turnitin.

As you may know, all theses and dissertations (except those presented in Te Reo Māori) are required to be run through Turnitin (or equivalent programmes to Turnitin) before they are submitted for examination.

Turnitin used to be accessed via PGMe on Blackboard. Now, it is now accessible via Canvas instead.

When it’s time to run your thesis, exegesis, or dissertation through Turnitin, you can find detailed instructions on how to do that within Canvas itself. If you don’t yet have access to Canvas, you can get a PDF of the instructions here:

You can also find more information about Turnitin, particularly how to interpret the similarity report, in our Thesislink post “What’s the Deal with Turnitin?”.

  1. I can’t find Turn it In on my Psych 325 on the GDAP canvas page – could someone point out where it is please? It isnt under assignments.

    1. Kia ora Rachael, this advice is for AUT research students submitting a thesis or dissertation. If you are wanting to use Turnitin for a particular course, then please contact your course coordinator for advice specific to your programme.

  2. Can PhD students have unlimited access –as in e.g. check 8 chapters and then their revised content as they go.
For some reason my PhD student thinks there is a limit of 3 turnitns per PhD student but she wants to check as she goes which fits well.

    1. Kia ora Ann, we recommend using Turnitin Draft Coach for checking during the drafting process. It’s available right within Microsoft Word – instructions for AUT students are here: https://thesislink.aut.ac.nz/?p=10210. There is a limit of 3 checks per document, but by copy/pasting content into new documents you can reset the counter on those 3 checks.
