Meet Springer Nature’s Science & Engineering Editors

Te Mātāpuna AUT Library will host a workshop from three of Springer Nature’s science and engineering editors tomorrow Wednesday 4 October at 12noon-1:30pm in WA505. Register via elab here.

This author workshop has been devised specifically as a resource for teaching researchers, particularly young scientists how to achieve publication success. Some of the key topics covered during this presentation are:

1. Writing for International Publications: Structure, Style and Accuracy

How to structure a research paper, what are the relevant sections, how should they be composed, dos and don’ts for each section, language tips when writing journal articles

2. Selecting a publication for your Manuscript

What factors to consider when selecting a home for your paper, how to find publications relevant to your topic area, what do editors look for in papers

3. Publication Ethics

What are the ethical issues in publishing, plagiarism, self-plagiarism, ethical clearances, authorship disputes, how to treat data, where to get advice on ethics

4. Book Publishing

What book types are available for consideration, the book publishing process and what authors should do after publication

Your Presenters:

Swati Meherishi is currently Editorial Director at Springer Nature. Since January 2019, she leads the Applied Sciences and Engineering books program in the Asia Pacific region. Prior to this, Swati has been instrumental in developing Springer’s physical sciences books and journals program in the Indian Subcontinent. She developed and managed a large portfolio of both Springer-owned and key academic society journals.  Swati holds degrees in Physics and Philosophy from the prestigious St. Stephen’s College in Delhi. She has an extensive experience publishing engineering content across two continents. Prior to Springer, Swati has managed  key engineering textbook portfolios in both India and the United States.

Dr. Ramesh Premnath received his PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Connecticut, USA, in July 2008 and worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Argonne National Laboratory, USA (Aug’08-May’10) and Institute of Materials Research and Engineering, Singapore, (July’10-Dec’11). He joined Springer in January 2012 as a Publishing Editor in Applied Sciences with the Springer Nature office in Singapore. Ramesh Premnath was in charge of books, journals, proceedings in various Engineering disciplines. These comprises of Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biotechnology, Environmental Engineering, Signal, Speech + Image Processing, Communication Engineering. For this purpose, he is trying to reach out for potential authors and establish a network for South East Asian and Oceania publishing activities in Applied Sciences.

Smith Ahram Chae works as Publishing Editor in Applied Sciences and Engineering Division of Springer Nature. He received a master’s degree in bioengineering from Seoul National University, South Korea. Prior to joining the books division, Smith was responsible for managing about 50 Springer journals with various Korean societies for six years. Currently, Smith is responsible for managing academic book publications for multiple regions, such as East Asia (Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Japan), the Middle East (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Israel, and Turkey), Africa (Egypt, Tunisia, and South Africa), and Oceania (only Civil Engineering)
