Doctoral students take note: the 3 Minute Thesis competition is now open for entries!
The premise is simple but the challenge is real. Take years of complex research, and present it in a video of just 3 minutes (with only one slide). This competition from the University of Queensland challenges you to distill your research into an easily-digestible pitch that can be understood by the educated layperson.
No results yet? No problem! You can compete in the early-to-mid stages of your doctoral research (once you have passed the confirmation of candidature) by presenting on your research plans and/or preliminary results.
So why should you enter?
- It’s excellent preparation for those many occasions when you need to clearly articulate your work (at conferences, networking events, job interviews, etc)
- Being a finalist or winner looks great on your CV!
- You can win valuable prizes (like cash research awards, laptops, and more!)
- AUT’s winner will earn a place in the Asia-Pacific Finals

You can find lots more information – including rules, key dates, and judging criteria – on the AUT 3 Minute Thesis website.
Ready to enter? Fill out the online form here! Entry forms must be submitted by Friday 5 July 2024, and entrants will have until 26 July to complete their video presentations.
