We’re in the middle of the writers’ retreat up at Long Bay. There are 22 of us all working on writing, writing, writing…..
The most amazing thing about being here is getting immediate answers or suggestions from our peers to those sticky questions we all have when writing our thesis.
We are going to post some of the suggestions on Thesislink over the next two days. So why not join in our conversation and share your ideas on what helps you write well.
…Thesislink is about researchers sharing experiences, hints and tips. Do share yours.
Sounds like you are having a great time and have perseverance under control. I look forward to hearing more about your writing ideas. Thanks for sharing.
A great opportunity both to focus on writing and to get tips from others
You are welcome. A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle.
I found the document to be very useful (in big caps). By using the matrix method, you are set to benefit from improved organization. In fact, the moment you finish this “prescription”, you will be armed to teeth. You are then ready to go for the jugular vein of your lit rev. Enjoy.
The Writing Retreat:
Imagine having three days with no excuses for not writing: no cooking, cleaning, children, work, TV etc. Then imagine having people around all the time to discuss all those thesis questions that arise – from issues around methodology to tips on writing, to questions about APA referencing. No waiting around for time with your supervisor – just get the answer right now.
That’s the writing retreat for me. A chance to get on with the job, with interesting people, good healthy food, a lovely view, and lots of help available. Thanks very much to AUT for putting this on. It’s very valuable. And all the best to all the other participants with the rest of their thesis.
It was a great ambience and opportunity to get started with my lit review for PGR9. Although it was not practical to complete 10000 words as planned, I managed to complete half of the task, including coming up with a structure for the rest of the proposal. It was great exchanging ideas, views with peers although we come from different disciplines. It was helpful to know, understand and relate to each other’s postgraduate research journey. Although all of us aim for the same destination, how we go about our research journey or the process is alike. Thanks for providing this opportunity, it was a beautiful location, great people, and most of all great writing.
A great opportunity to meet with ‘like-minded’ people to discuss and share ideas and thoughts about your research project.
Thanks to Jenni, Kathryn and David for facilitating this retreat. It certainly has been a productive week for me!
It was a great opportunity to be around other post grad students who were very likeable and supportive. My visual arts Masters writing experience is quite different from those who are lead by a research question. I was still able to feel part of the group. Struggling to get my writing started, and along with the knowledge that my recently diagnosed dyslexic was causing me to feel fearful around writing, I was unsure how the retreat could help. Having the time to sit down and focus on the writing and pick up some handy tip from the other students was great. I may not be a great writer but I found out I do want to successfully complete the writing component of my masters . The retreat is for all writers regardless of ability.
