Entries Open Now for 3 Minute Thesis!

Want to tell the world about your research? Now’s your chance!

The annual 3 Minute Thesis (‘3MT’) competition is now open for entries. If you are writing a Masters or doctoral thesis, this competition challenges you to communicate your research clearly and succinctly to a broad audience. Competitors have just 3 minutes (with only 1 slide) to showcase their research.

The winners of AUT’s Masters and doctoral 3MT competitions will take home great prizes, and go on to represent AUT at the national finals (Masters) or the Asia-Pacific finals (doctoral).

This year the competition is virtual, so competitors will record their presentations as videos. Check out the videos from last year’s AUT Masters 3MT winner Humaira Suddiqi and doctoral winner Katrina Coleman to see what a great video entry looks like.

Who can enter?

  • PhD and professional doctorate students (including students whose thesis is under submission). You will need to have passed your PGR9 by the date of your first 3MT presentation.
  • Masters research students (including students whose thesis is under submission), provided you are enrolled in a research project of 90 points or more by the date of your first 3MT presentation.

How do you enter?

Submit your online entry form by Friday 2 June. At this stage, you only need to fill out the form; once that’s done, we’ll provide more info on producing your video presentation.
