Want to hear about the fabulous range of research that AUT’s postgraduate students are doing? Come along to the Postgraduate Research Symposium on Monday 9 September!
We’ll open with a mihi whakatau from Professor Mark Orams, followed by a keynote from Dr. Atakohu Middleton. Atakohu is a reo Māori journalist and communications advisor, and completed her PhD on Māori journalism at AUT. She has recently published a non-fiction book, Kia Hiwa Rā!: Māori Journalism in Aotearoa New Zealand. Atakohu’s keynote address is titled, “Insights from an accidental academic: What you need in your PhD toolkit”.
The Symposium then breaks out into multiple themed sessions of oral presentations from our talented postgraduate researchers. Choose from such diverse topics as ‘Ecology and Sustainability,’ ‘Engagement in Work and Learning,’ ‘Cultural Identities and the Arts,’ ‘Addiction, Mental Health and Therapies,’ and many more. Check out the full details in the programme below.
After a complimentary lunch, there is a PG forum called “First Steps Toward Publication.” Hear from the publication experts in Te Mātāpuna AUT Library about how to identify suitable journals, navigate the world of Open Access scholarship, make use of Read & Publish Agreements to avoid publishing fees, and work toward your own first publication.
After more oral presentations in the afternoon, we move into a poster session, where you can chat with poster presenters and vote for the Best Poster Award. Finally, in the early evening, we will have closing words, award presentations, and non-alcoholic drinks & nibbles.
Register here – it is completely free, and non-AUT folks are welcome too! Come along, bring your colleagues / friends / family, and enjoy a day of mind-opening conversation.
This event is part of AUT Wiki Rangahau / Research Week, and you can register at the same time for any of over 20 other events taking place over the week. See you there!
