Those little letters “Dr” in front of someone’s name confer an awful lot of respectability. And so they should – anyone who has completed a PhD has proved themselves capable of surviving a process that is intellectually demanding, emotionally complex, and sometimes exhausting.
The emotional highs and lows of doctoral research can be mysterious and misunderstood. That’s why our colleague Dr Inger Mewburn (aka the Thesis Whisperer) of Australian National University has designed a free online course called “How to Survive Your PhD.” Watch Dr Mewburn describe the course below:
The course focuses on the experiences and emotions that you can expect to encounter during a PhD, and how to handle them effectively. It will be useful if you’re considering starting a PhD, or you’re in the early-mid stages, and you want to know what to expect. It may also be useful for anyone who needs to understand what you’re going through as a PhD researcher. If your family & friends are having trouble relating to your experiences, have them sign up.
The course is 10 weeks long, 100% online, and free. It starts on August 28, and should only take 2 hours per week to complete.
