GRS Covid-19 Update August 17, 2020

Kia ora Graduate Students,

The collective thoughts and attention of the team at GRS are with you all. GRS staff are all fully operational whilst working at home, from admissions through to examinations. You will have received various communications regarding operations from your School, Faculty, and the University. The GRS will continue to reiterate specific information to you in our direct updates to you, at least weekly.

If you are experiencing a direct interruption to your research activity, your first contact will be your supervisor, who will provide you with guidance and advice on how to maintain progress. If you experience significant disruption, it’s important to take note of exactly what and when so you can communicate that later as needed in documents such as progress reports (PGR8) or applications for leave or extension (PGR6).

A reminder that under Alert Level 3 all face-to-face research activities must stop, including public events, personal interviews, and experiments involving human subjects. These should be conducted remotely, where possible. In terms of essential research on campus, at Alert Level 3 only buildings that house essential services and specialist facilities will be available. Please liaise directly with your supervisor. Postgraduate Study Rooms (WU415/WU416, AL210, MA206) are not accessible during Alert Level 3.

For students who do not have internet or computers at home, Tech Central is available at the City campus (WA409A), North campus (AL125) and South campus (MA202/MAPODS). Hours are Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm and Saturday to Sunday 10am to 5pm. Students must book online via the AUT app (Note: Due to physical distancing requirements, space is limited). Contact tracing will be in place and the spaces will be fitted with distancing markers and hand sanitiser. Equipment will be cleaned between each use. Contactless student ICT support will be provided by freephone: 0800 288 428.

If you have any specific concerns, questions or issues you would like help with, please email the GRS at grs@aut.ac.nz and we will do all we can to help you.

Noho ora mai

Be safe, stay well, and look after yourselves and those close to you (from 0 to 8 legs).
