Postgraduate Research Symposium to Take Place Online in 2021

Tēnā koutou e te whānau. We hope you are doing well and enjoying Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori so far. The Graduate Research School would like to advise that our annual Postgraduate Research Symposium will take place in an online format this year.

The Postgraduate Research Symposium will take place on Friday 26 November and is a great opportunity for student researchers at AUT who want to learn more about the experience of participating in an academic conference in a friendly and supportive environment. You will submit an abstract for review, and then prepare and deliver your presentation. Because of the uncertainty caused by the current COVID outbreak in Aotearoa, and because of the increasing popularity of online conferences in recent times, we have decided to move the Symposium online.

While we are currently working out the details of this, we wanted to let you know that this is what we have planned, and to encourage you to submit an abstract using the application form here. You can apply to deliver an oral presentation or a poster (though the poster session may look different from what you might have come across in previous years at a face-to-face gathering). It is unlikely that we will be able to accommodate creative exhibitions in the online space, unfortunately. Your abstract should outline the nature of your research, including any key literature, arguments, findings and/or conclusions. Include the methodology, approach and sample, as well as keywords and an abstract title. Check out this short video on writing a conference abstract here.

All abstracts will be subject to an academic review process through the Graduate Research School. You may be asked to revise the abstract during the review process. If accepted, you will be confirmed to present at the 2021 Postgraduate Research Symposium and your abstract will be published in the symposium programme. The call for abstracts closes on 1 October, which is not too far off now, so get working on your abstract. We hope to provide resources and support for presenting online in the lead up to the Symposium, so look out for that. In the meantime, stay safe and we look forward to seeing you online on 26 November.

Ngā mihi,

The Researcher Development Team, Graduate Research School
